NOTICE TO RESIDENTS OF BIRMINGHAM, AL

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
On the 30 of November, there will converge on your big city, a group unlike any group ever to so converge. You may have heard rumors that this group was coming, and you may have even been a little frightened. Let me assure you, you have nothing to fear from these ladies...but they WILL make their presence known. Can't you just FEEL the excitement?

As a charter member of this organization, it has fallen my responsibility to confirm to you that we have, indeed, chosen Birmingham as our official meeting place for meeting #2. I know this is more than you, as a city, could have ever dreamed of. The "B" CLUB is on its way! I'll give you a moment to finish cheering. I'm sure you wish to welcome us properly and bestow great honors on us...and rightly so. I imagine you have parade committees working, even as I type. And, the other festivities that you would choose to have in our honor, would be the "event of the year" we are sure.

However, we respectfully ask that you allow us to just keep this "gathering" very low key. We realize that this is the holiday season, and resources are stretched to the limit. We, as busy women of the world, recognize this, and wish to add no other responsibilities for you during this busy time. We realize that you usually would have elaborate ceremonies and presentations, grand balls and elegant banquets when such dignitaries grace you with their presence, And, we know, that the festivities you would like to plan for us would outdo any that you have done in the past...and rightly so. But, we choose to just ease into town and carry on our business without all the fanfare. Sometimes, it is just nice to be one of the 'regular people'. It is easier for us to carry out our intended business that way. I know those of you already in the planning stages are disappointed, but, we ask that you indulge us on this. We will likely return, and there will be time then for you to honor us as we so deserve. Plus, this will give you more time for the planning you will need to do to properly impress us. Now, dry those tears,,,and put a smile back on your faces. You've still got lots to look forward to. You may even catch a glimpse of us while we are in town. Now, wouldn't that just make your day? Perhaps you may stand next to us as we shop. If you happen to see us making a purchase in one of your lovely shops, you could have the honor of allowing us to go to the head of the line. You may catch a glimpse of us as we eat. Yes, even we "B" CLUBBERS have to stop for nourishment occasionally. But, if you will please, allow us to enjoy our meals in private...this is where we conduct some of our most important business. If you'd like to send over desserts covered in chocolate, we will be so gracious as to accept.

We do have a few minor requests, however, that you may so kindly help us with. First, we require some nice weather...we do not mind a little 'nip in the air'...but we do request a blue sky with much sunshine. We all have cute sweaters that we are anxious to wear, and this is the proper time for us to show our good taste. So, just cool enough for a sweater, please....but not so cool as to need a bulky coat to have to drag around and weigh us down and keep us from our appointed duties. Also, if you would be so kind as to clear the traffic from our paths as we make our way around your city, it would be such a help. As we are only in town for a short time, surely your tasks and outings can be put on hold until we return to our homes. This is an easy way for you to show these ladies the respect they have earned. Just explain to your children that karate classes, and gymnastics, and dance and football pale in comparison to the workings of our group. This could be such a learning experience for them as they come to realize that certain groups have prestige and privilege afforded to them and their needs will always take precedence. Why this could even become an incentive for them to one day aspire to be a "B" themselves.

I am sure you are already making plans to add this information to the textbooks your children are learning from. Just think, one day you can say to a child or grandchild, "I remember when the "B" Club came to town back in '07. I only caught a glimpse of them as they passed, but this old town has never been the same!" Won't you be proud? And just think how special you will be in their eyes?

So, be proud, Birmingham, you have been chosen for a high honor. Your adherence to our requests will go far in the possibility you may be chosen another time. The ball is in your court...get out there and serve!

CHRISTMAS SPIRIT

We always hear about Christmas Spirit at this time of the year...but what exactly IS 'Christmas Spirit?' Is it in the mall or the boutiques? Is it found at the numerous Christmas programs we will attend? Is it found in the Pastor's sermon on the Sundays leading up to the BIG DAY? Is it in the faces of the children as they sit on Santa's lap? Is it outside of the big shopping centers next to the big kettle and the ringing bell? Is it at the table on Christmas day surrounded by your loved ones? Is it around the Christmas tree as everyone is tearing open their packages? Is it in the car as you travel to visit family?

I think you can find it in all these places..but do you? I have found through the years that I don't always have it. I feel like I should, but, in all honesty, that's just not the way it is for me. According to tradition, we should all have that special glow, that 'love the whole world' mentality, and open pockets ready to share from the moment Christmas is first mentioned. Well, I am here to say..."it ain't necessarily so." I get so caught up in all the TO DO lists and the presents, and the cooking and the parties, and the programs, and the services and the needy children and the decorating and the shopping and the visiting and the cards and the...and the...and the...Where did all this come from? And WHY do we do it, and continue to do it year after year? I find myself bemoaning the fact that I just don't feel like it's Christmas,,,and I don't feel like doing all this stuff again, and nobody notices unless I DON'T do it and nobody appreciates just how hard I work to get everything ready. There's just no way the Christmas Spirit can get through all that.

I wait for it to "hit me"...and thank God, it always does...just when I least expect it. One year it came as I was sharing the Christmas story with a group of preschoolers, and when I got to the part about the manger, a sweet little boy said, "He shouldn't 'a 'ever had to sleep in a barn...it stinks in there...somebody shoulda' gived Him a bed." The sweetness and honesty of children...I found it there. One year, I found it as I sat in a huge Christmas program and watched a son, who had been struggling with his own issues and bad choices, cry huge tears, unashamedly, because he was so touched at the message he had heard so many times before. I knew he was going to find his way back...and my heart was filled to overflowing with Christmas Spirit. Last year, I found it in a dear, sweet man, whom I love like a grandfather. I was sitting in church on Sunday evening, and Uncle Allison was sitting in front of me. He had been watching over his wife with Alzheimer's for many years...waiting on her and caring for her so tenderly. As he sang Christmas carols with his still beautiful tenor voice...face towards heaven and Glory on his face, I thought this must truly be what the angels in heaven sound like. And I found it there.

It will come...it always does. Just as I used to wait expectantly for Santa to arrive, I now wait for that funny feeling in my stomach, that catch in my throat, that swelling in my heart...and I know..I KNOW..I've caught the Christmas Spirit once again.

WHAT NOT TO DO ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON

If, in the exciting life that you lead, you happen to notice a funny smell coming from your dishwasher, keep the following info handy...close by...and reread.

When you notice that yucky smell, it could be the garbage disposal. If it is, there is a great product you can buy at the grocery store to pour down the drain. It bubbles up nicely, and eats away all the gunk in the nether regions under your kitchen sink. Things it is best not to speak of. After said product has worked its magic...all will be well..with nary a smell.

HOWEVER, if you feel certain within an inch of your life, that the smell cometh from inside the dishwasher....DO NOT....NEVER...EVER...IN YOUR WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE...PLEASE, I'M BEGGING YOU...DO NOT decide to just shoot a few squirts of disposal cleaner into the bottom of the dishwasher. Even if you think, "it cleaned out the disposal so well, I figured it couldn't hurt to send it to work its magic on the dishwasher...I just put in a few squirts..."

[just for the record...these words were spoken by the eldest male in my house, the one who reminds me frequently that I sometimes "go stupid...and stuff"....as he is walking OUT the door to attend a meeting at church...with his pants legs held high up to his knees as he wades through the lovely, sudsy pond that is now my kitchen floor.]

No mop available, would have soaked up the water. So, Alex and I gathered together all...yea ALL, the towels in the house and began the cleanup. This was a flood of biblical proportions, y'all. And we sopped up water...and detergent...and DISPOSAL CLEANER until we were nigh unto death. Until our backs began to wither and our legs to shout a mighty "STOP, ALREADY!" We scooted the wet towels into the laundry room and began the great DIRTY TOWEL WASH OFF that is continuing even until today.

MORAL...DO NOT "GO STUPID" and leave your wife and son to clean up your mess. It is going to take some major shiny baubles and trinkets to soothe my weary back and legs...and the loss of my Sunday afternoon nap.

It will be nice to have every, single towel, dishcloth, cleaning rag in the house clean at one time. But, not enough for me to ever forget this one. I'm claiming major points for keeping my cool and not throwing the 'husband out with the dishwasher water.'

BOOKS ON SHELVES

Hi friends
I just stopped by K-Mart on the way home from church. They had a big display set up about this movie...and on the book aisle were a stack of the books, His Dark Materials. This is the first I have seen of any kind of display, but, I suppose it is like the article said, when the kids watch the movie, they will want the books.

I just want us to be aware of what this really is, so we won't be taken in and can speak out about this evil influence.

WARNING....BAD MOVIE APPROACHING

I have read some alarming news today and I wish to share it with you, in case you haven't heard. New Line Cinema is releasing a movie geared to children on December 7
The movie, The Golden Compass, is not at all what it is portrayed to be in the reviews and trailers. The makers of this film are hoping that you will associate it with the Chronicles Of Narnia, but it happens to be the exact opposite. This is a very dark and sinister movie. It is the first movie in a trilogy based in the books by Philip Pullman, an avowed atheist. It is about the death of organized religion and the overthrow of God. His objective in writing this series called His Dark Materials, is to counteract the symbolism of Christ that was evidenced in The Chronicles of Narnia. While the movie may seem innocent enough, the real danger is in the books. And promoters of the movie are hoping that children and teens who see the movie will then request the books for Christmas. In the final book, characters who represent Adam and Eve eventually kill God. Pullman has been quoted as saying."I loathe the Narnia books. I hate them with a deep and bitter passion. I don't know whether there is a God or not. No one does, no matter what they say." The movie is set in a parallel universe where every one's soul in manifest as a "daemon" or talking animal. The "church" is kidnapping children and cutting the invisible thread that binds them to their "daemon"...thus removing their souls. Sounds like great holiday viewing, doesn't it?

Once again, the 'powers that be' in Hollywood are deciding what our children and teens should see. And, then manipulating us into spending our money to purchase vile literature for our children to read. I, for one, will have none of it. And I plan to use my little voice in this big, big world to take a stand against it. I will tell as many people as I have opportunity to about this latest effort to tarnish the minds of today's youth.

A LITTLE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT

Because I'm just the kind of blogger who likes to share her life with her bloggy friend, I felt like I had no choice but to share this e-mail with you. It arrived from my youngest son, and it's a hoot and a half! Enjoy!

Click here to get into the spirit of the season!

GREAT MUSIC.....# 4

The only words to describe this CD are "genius"...or "masterpiece"...or "awesome."
This just released album is a true worship experience. It was recorded at the famed Abbey Road studio in London, and features a 97 piece orchestra. There are 9 original songs here, with 5 being wholly instrumental. Also featured are 4 choirs.
There is a 100 voice choir as well as a 16 voice London Boys Choir. A favorite of mine is a duet with Mandisa (remember?). Oh, my! It is divine! Their voices blend and meld so well...it's pure listening bliss. The only bad review of this album I could find was "it's too short!" This music will take you right up to the door of heaven!

IT"S A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS......Michael W. Smith

GIVING THANKS

The list I would make today of the blessings I have received would take me too long to write. Suffice it to say...God has been good to me. I am grateful God doesn't just give me what I deserve, he just blesses and blesses and blesses again. I have no needs that aren't met. I realize how fortunate I am to be able to say that. I have all the food I want, a warm house to live in, plenty of clothes to wear, a good car to drive, a great place to work, a wonderful place to worship, money in my pocket and money in the bank. I also have the most wonderful family. From the time I was a child, I have been taught to be grateful and to be mindful of what I have been given. My parents have always "given back" in many ways. I see them even now as years have advanced, still looking for ways to serve. What a legacy. Thanks, Mom and Pop. One of the sweetest memories I have of my Mom...a memory that truly shows her heart, was on a mission trip that was taken by the women in our church. We were in Nashville, and had spent all day painting a shelter type daycare building. It was time for us to leave, and we were not finished, but it was important for us to vacate the premises. As we began preparing to leave, I saw Mom sitting in one of the hallways, paintbrush in hand...tears streaming. I asked her what was wrong and she said, "There's just so much to do, and we can't do it all. Who will ever finish what we started?" She would have stayed all night to finish...we all would have. My Pop has taken many trips out of the country to help missionary families and he has always had stories to tell of how they gladly go without necessities to be able to give more to those they serve. Which is why he would go to be with them...just to be their "handy man" for a while and take care of things they did not have time to get done. Service and thankfulness has been lived in front of me all my life. My parents have always been generous with their money, in giving to our church, and missions. I have been blessed to have a husband who believes the same way. Our tithe has always been the first to come out of our paycheck. It has never been a question. Don is always ready and willing to give generously to help others any time the need arises. My Mother-In-Law, who lives with Jesus now, was also a very generous and giving lady. She was always ready to meet a need. I pray that my boys and their families will continue to use the resources the Lord blesses them with for His work and to serve others. How blest we are to live in this country. There is such abundance...no one should suffer from want in our nation. My sister and her family feel this same way. Service and helping is a part of their daily lives. They are also living a life of gratefulness and thanksgiving. I am also fortunate to have friends who feel as I do. So many times they have used their gifts of service to minister to our family. God has blessed me with friends who are always near and willing to help.

"God, forgive me when I take these blessing for granted. Make me more aware of your goodness and provisions. Help me always look for ways to be of service to those in need. I am thankful, above all else, for You. Thank-you for saving my soul and giving me eternal life. Thank-you for your daily guidance. Amen."

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU

PESSIMISTIC ME

AN OPTIMIST IS A PERSON WHO PLANS TO START A NEW DIET ON THANKSGIVING DAY.

Let's just get honest here, a big part of the Thanksgiving celebration is the FOOD! Oh yes it is! So, I am giving you permission to be a pessimistic person tomorrow...
It would just be wrong not to partake of all the goodness that has been prepared for you...or by you! Think of all the time and effort that went into the preparing of the feast. So, show your appreciation by partaking of all that is offered...and, if you are so inclined, it is perfectly permissible to partake again. That REALLY shows your gratitude! Enjoy!

"O, TASTE AND SEE THAT THE LORD IS GOOD!" Psalm 34:8

*******************************************************************************

May your stuffing be tasty,
May your turkey be plump.
May your Potatoes and gravy
have nary a lump.

May your yams be delicious,
May your pies take the prize.
May your Thanksgiving Dinner
stay OFF your thighs!

GREAT MUSIC.....# 3

Another great CD. This is hauntingly beautiful, a good one to have playing as background music while doing something else. The voices here blend so well, and the arrangements are perfection. They have a very crisp, soothing sound. This collection will not disappoint.

GREAT MUSIC.....#2

Picked up this new CD Friday, and it is beautiful. Very easy and mellow. WINTERSONG by Sarah McLachlan. It's mostly traditional songs, but a few new ones, too. I especially like how she gives a new slant to the traditional carols. You hear just her clear, pure voice...so relaxing. This is one you should have in your music library. Enjoy!

I RECOMMEND.....#11

A recent post by Kat, reminded me of a book I wanted to share with my bloggy friends. As you can see, it's called LIST YOURSELF. It has around 300 pages, and each page covers a different topic. The book asks questions and then gives you plenty of room to LIST your answers. I think sometimes when you want to write in a journal, you are faced with all that blank paper and wonder how to start...and if you can ever think of enough to fill the page. With this book, you just list your answers. No pressure to elaborate or add illustrations. Some of the prompts are funny, some serious, some really cause you to think and reflect back on life. When this book is finished, you will have a pretty good record of the events that shaped who you are today. What a legacy to be handed down to your children and grandchildren. Because of the way this book is formatted, you can open to any page and start a list. Do as many or as few as you like and pick it up again when you're ready. I've had mine for over a year and I'm about half finished. But, I'll also go several months without writing.

Hey, if you like making lists...this is a book you'll love! Great gift for teenagers and above. There is also a Book 2 when you finish the first.

DIRTY DISHES

"Thank God for dirty dishes,
They have a tale to tell.
While others may go hungry,
We're eating very well.

With home and health and happiness
We really shouldn't fuss.
For by this stack of evidence
God's very good to us!

This little poem was given to me a long time ago when I was a new wife and mother. Our pastor's wife at the time was a really special lady, and she took up a lot of time with our little family. Several things she said and did remain with me still. And one of those is this little poem that she had displayed in her kitchen. She was not the most conventional of pastors wives. She was a godly lady, but, she really did hear "another drummer drumming." Actually, as I see it now, she was just not afraid to be her true, authentic self. Thanks, Mrs Laura Nell Harrison, for your impact on my life. I remember you this Thanksgiving and give thanks to God for you.
Be well and happy.

WAY TO LISTEN!

An amazing thing happened in one of my classes of K-4 students yesterday. We are working on our Christmas programs now, and the class was going to learn a new song. I had my pianist play it for them on the piano (what else would a pianist play on?). They were all on good behavior yesterday due to my promise of Skittles if they did well. They listened intently as she played...once just the melody, then with accompaniment. It had a constant rolling beat in the bass, and a sweet, little melody. When she finished, little Benjamin raised his hand. "Yes, Benjamin", I said. "That music sounded just like a river!", he commented. I had her play it again, and sure enough...I could imagine a river.

This brought joy to a music teacher's heart. (Right, Jean?) I think music is such an important part of life, and is one of God's greatest gifts to us. My goal as a preschool music teacher is to introduce different types of music and teach the children to 'learn to listen' to what they are hearing. All the other music basics and fundamentals will come later. I am trying to lay a foundation for another teacher to build on in later years. So, when Benjamin "got it"....I had one of those "YES!" moments. Makes an old teacher feel quite proud.

As a follow up to his statement...I decided to take advantage of that "teachable moment." I went on to explain how music can make us feel many different ways. Sometimes it makes us feel like dancing, or singing. Sometimes it makes us feel sad, sometimes it sounds like a party. Sometimes it makes us feel like going to sleep. It can also help us praise God, and worship Him.

So, I encourage you to expose your child to different kinds of music and talk about how it makes them feel. This is the time of their lives when there is such rapid brain development, and learning to appreciate music has been proven to be a big factor in how well kids do academically in later years. Provide them with good music to listen to, and encourage them as they develop favorites. Grandparents, you can do this as well. The love and appreciation of music can create a very special bond. This is a special connection you could enjoy for many years.

GREAT MUSIC.....# 1

I purchased this new CD by Jars Of Clay yesterday, and I am really enjoying it. It is not your typical Christmas CD, even though there are a few favorites. But the majority are lesser known Christmas songs, and some beautiful instrumental work as well. This CD has a different sound, it's more of a reflective listening sound as opposed to a 'let's have a party' sound. Actually, I think it should be listened to all the way through to get the true feel for it. It is slow, and sensitive, and feels very "wintery"...if that is even an adjective.

I think if you are looking for something different for the season...this is it. I bought mine at a Christian book store, but I also saw it at Target. Enjoy!

I RECOMMEND.....#10

O.K. If you haven't read this book, you've missed a treat. And, if you have any women in the 50 and above category on your gift list...this is sure to please. If you are younger than 50...you just probably won't "get it."

Judith Viorst writes in her book, I FEEL BAD ABOUT MY NECK, about things common to all of us "seasoned women." She writes 15 different essays, and if some of them don't make you laugh out loud...something is terribly wrong with your laugh box! She is witty, clever, and brutally honest. Because it is in essay form, this book does not require much time at a sitting. But, it is so funny and so truthful, you may be like me, and read it all at once! I think she must have read my very own thoughts for some of her writing. You'll see...she probably read yours, too!

I can guarantee the recipient will love it...just 1 word of caution. You'd better buy 2, cause you'll want one for yourself, too.

Order from Amazon.com.....$12.00.....or available at most any bookstore.

PRAYER MEETING

Hi, friends. I just returned from the prayer meeting for Alex. In case you don't remember, our church is having special prayer time for him every Tuesday evening from 5:00-6:00. I just wanted to share with you what an amazing feeling it is to be surrounded by friends and family...all praying in one accord. It is so humbling and so precious. God meets our needs in many different ways. At this time in our lives, he is using our church family to stand in the gap with us for Alex. Our pastor said tonight that God put Alex in this family, in this church for a specific reason. And his reasons may be for the Lord to do a work in our church...it may be for Him to do a work in our family...it may be for him to do a work in me or Don. My prayer tonight is that I will have open ears to hear the Lord if I am in the way of Him doing what He wants. I want to know if I am not being obedient to Him, so I can remedy that. I just want God to work...and I believe that He can. I believe with my whole heart that God can heal Alex in the blink of an eye. He's done it before...why not with my child? I also know that God's plans do not always include healing...in this world. But, my heart's desire is for Alex to have a better quality life...to be able to LIVE life. This is what I pray...in Jesus' name.

A special thanks to my brother-in-love, Tommy and my Pop for being there tonight...as well as my sisterfriend, Tina. My sister, Joy, came out and stayed with Alex so I could go tonight. Oh, how wonderfully blessed I am by family and friends! I do not take it for granted.

This is too much fun! I have used one of these with my kids at church...it's a blast. Kids of all ages find it amazing. Just add cream, vanilla and sugar....a little rock salt and ice...close it up tightly...and HAVE A BALL! Roll it, kick it,
throw it...whatever. And, before you know it...ice cream! I can attest to the fact that kids love it! Me, too!

I have one of these market totes, and I love it! It was given to me by a friend for my birthday, and I use it everyday. I take it back and forth to work with me. The neat thing is it folds completely flat for storage. It is made of aluminum, so it is very lightweight. Also the sides are reinforced and the handles are padded. I know someone on your list would find this useful...I sure have. Thanks Bill and Pat!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ALEX

Happy Birthday, to the sweetest, bravest young man I know. God blessed me with goodness when He placed you in my life. You show me every day what courage and strength look like. I am awed at your wisdom and gentleness. I pray that God will open His heart and pour out healing and strength on you. We will wait together, my son. I love you with all my heart, Mom.

RUN, BAMBI, RUN

"Run, Bambi, Run
Will has got his gun."

He said, "It's time to go."
I told him, "NO! NO! NO!

That's not the thing to do
For folks as nice as you."

But, he did not agree
And, now he's up a tree.

"Please, Bambi, run and hide
Stay close to Mama's side.

It's never safe to run
When Will gets out his gun!"

Can you guess how I feel about deer hunting? Just to think of it, makes me shiver. Any kind of hunting, really. I just don't get it. But, in this part of the country, it is just the natural thing to do. Boys get started early and get initiated into the whole deer hunting gang by getting covered with the blood of the deer they killed. UGH! Now, I have a nephew-in-law, who married my sweet niece, Tara. She was a sweet girl...totally uncorrupted until she met up with Will. Now, she goes on these expeditions with him. I can not believe she turned like that!:)
But, she enjoys it.

Sad as it is that they have chosen this gruesome hobby, I love them both dearly. Will and Tara are both such good, kind young people. They work hard, and I think hunting is their only vice. Will is a big outdoorsman and fishes as well. Tara has become his companion on these outings, and she loves it, too. I am the Director of the Preschool in our church, and Will and Tara are the Assistant Directors. I am training them to take over completely, and they are very capable. There are times, like today, when I am not able to be there because of Alex and I feel so blessed knowing that everything will continue running smoothly and they will take care of everything. They are praying for a special blessing in their lives right now and my prayer is that God will give them the desires of their hearts. I am blessed having them in my life and being able to work along side of them. But, they can ask all they want...I'm NEVER going hunting with them!

ATLANTA REPORT

Well, friends, I am a little less pooped now, and I wanted to report to you that Suzanne, Mary and I had a delightful time. Of course, Suze did all the driving, much to our delight. We had beautiful weather...just COLD! Wow! Tuesday, we almost froze! We made it to Atlanta Monday evening, and had time to shop at about 5 stores, before they closed. Tacky of them, wasn't it? Had a nice dinner at Cheesecake Factory, and took our desert to go. We checked into our motel...big disappointment. But we knew it probably would be. Since we were going to be shopping at the Mart on Tuesday, we wanted to be downtown, so we could be right there when they opened, and leave our car parked close. I won't say the name of the place, but it is right across the street from the Mart, and it is not a Weeks Inn. However, good company rules the day, and we made the best of the situation, and managed to keep smiling. Got our stuff in, and settled down to our lovely dessert. Yum! Yum! Such a nice way to go to sleep! We got up early and had breakfast at the hotel restaurant. I'll just say that it was right in keeping with the rest of our experience there. We were so not impressed. But, it was better than having nothing...and since our trip was about shopping, not eating...we managed to forget the unhappy start to the day and carry on with our plans. There are 3 days of shopping at the Mart that are called cash-and-carry days. And many of the vendors housed there, drop their prices and attempt to sell some of the things they need to get rid of before the next season's items start arriving. WOO HOO! Lots of stuff! Good Stuff! At good prices! But, waaaaay too many people! Wow, it was crowded. Luckily, they had a place for you to check your packages during the day, and then pick them all up when you left. So, we got all our things together...and may I say, there was much to gather...verily 3 ginormous bags full...and LO! it was sorely heavy...heavy as to cause a person to stumble mightily, and fall to the ground in pain and agony and with much gnashing of teeth! So, it was decided that Mary and Suze would go get the car and I...YES I...should stand outside beside the road in the freezing, windy cold weather of (NOT)Hotlanta. And I stood in my appointed place, thusly guarding all said loot, with my broken and bruised and tired body! But, being of unsound mind, by this time, I did it all with an uncomplaining spirit, because that is just the kind of girl I am. Willing to suffer mightily, so my family and friends could get their presents come Christmas time. I think that puts me up their with Santa's Elves or maybe even with the jolly 'ole soul himself! We shoved the goodies into the back of the car, and proceeded with haste out of Atlanta. There was still one more stop to make...before closing time. And being the kind of women who like to meet a challenge and WIN...we made it...To Columbus, Ga. and the Hobby Lobby. There we managed to spend the few remaining $$$$$ we had left, and we drove on home...with visions of fun, family, and frivolity in our heads!

So, to summarize:

WENT.....SPENT
COLD.....FROZE
POOPED...DROOPED
REST.....BLEST!!!!!!!

TOO POOPED TO POST

I just returned from our shopping trip to Atlanta. The only time we were not moving...we were either sleeping or driving! My back hurts, my feet are swollen, and my wallet is considerably lighter. Please understand if I grab a diet Dr. Pepper, put myself in a horizontal position,,,with a heating pad under my back and a pillow under my feet. And thanks for waiting patiently as I take some aspirin. O.K. I'm in a position to zone out now...and I think I shall....

QUICK TRIP

I'm leaving around noon today on a quick trip to Atlanta. Suzanne and her mom and myself are going. Can you imagine going off with your Mother AND your Mother-in law? She's a brave one, she is...:) Her mom is a lovely lady, and I'm sure we will have a wonderful time together. We are doing a little shopping tonight and then to the Apparel Mart tomorrow. And back to Dothan before too late, because we all have work Wed. morning. Say a prayer for our travelling safety. As I have told you before, Suzanne is great in that "devil speedway" in Atlanta. That's why some folks call it "Hotlanta"....really...That's the reason...I think it is....well, that's why I call it that!

Happy Monday, Friends!

GOOD MUSIC

I am a big fan of this ladies' music, and I just found her latest offering. Her name is Linda McKechnie and she is fabulous. Her music is instrumental...piano,but like you've never heard before. She starts off playing a classical piece and then she weaves familiar hymns and carols throughout. I first found her work by accident, and now I anxiously wait for her newest releases.

Pictured is her newest Christmas work and it is worthy of highest praise. My first CD of hers was called Hymnworks..I think there is a Vol.1 and 2. Then she has Symphony of Praise...Vol.1 and 2. There is also her first Christmas CD called A Hymnworks Christmas, and now Christmas Collage.

If you like classical music and are at all familiar with hymns and carols, you will love this series. It is like a little surprise on each song, because you get so engrossed in the classical selection, you don't notice when she adds the hymn or carol into the piece until you find yourself humming along.

You should be able to find her music at any Christian bookstore, and she also has a web site www.lindamckechnie.com. I think you will be surprised at her mastery of the piano and her unique style. You'll not be disappointed, I'm sure.

I RECOMMEND...# 6

TAKE CHARGE CHARGER CASE

I went on a 3 night trip a few weeks ago, and realized just how dependent on electronics I have gotten. I had my cell phone, my PDA, and my laptop. I could have had my IPOD also, but I knew I wouldn't use it cause I was travelling with 4 other girls. When you take those things with you...you have to take the chargers, also. What a mess when all those cords get tangled up with your shoes and your hairspray. This looks like a neat solution. This case has 4 separate sections just for holding your electronics chargers. They all stay together, and they keep their cords to themselves! I know a few men who do a bit of travelling...ladies, too ,for that matter, and this looks like a winner to me. Give those chargers their own little charger motel....your shoes and your hairspray will thank you for it.

Order from THE SPOON SISTERS.....cost...$ 12.50

BOYS BRING JOYS

Yesterday, I made plans with Adam, my oldest, to help me with getting my car serviced today. He was to be at my house at 7:00AM and we were going to drop off my car and he was going to take me on to work, come back and get me and pick up my car. At 6:50 this morning, I realized it was foolish for him to come over here first...we should just meet at the car place. So, I called him. A very sleepy voice answered the phone and I was immediately unhappy with the implications. "Are you not up yet?",I said. "Mam?",he said. "Did you forget about my car?", I prompted. "Mom, what are you talking about?" he said. "We made plans yesterday to get my car serviced and it's now past time!",I replied. There was a noticeable pause over the airwaves....then..."Wrong son, Mom," the sleepy voice said. Oh my, I had called Ian in Birmingham by mistake! OOPS! "Never mind,"said I.

We did get the car business taken care of , then Adam and I were able to have a nice breakfast together. I went to work, and he came back to my house to bring Alex a cheese danish and to pick up my dog, Scooter. He (Scooter) has been limping for about a week, and also his allergies are bothering him really bad. Adam dropped him off at the vet, ran some errands, and picked me up and we got my car. Scooter was not ready, so I had to kill some time. I went and walked through our new Michael's. Boy, it is packed with stuff. It is amazing, though...I can go in there just to look around and I always find something I didn't even know I needed! As I did today. Finally, the dog was ready, so I went to hear the report. He is fine...just getting old. He is 13 years old and has arthritis in both hips. Bless his heart. He's such a good boy. He got his allergy shot and that should help with the arthritis, too. If not, we are going to try some other meds.

FINALLY, I could head home. Ian called me and said, "What was up with you this morning?" "Just your crazy Mom, acting her age!", I said. "Well, I'll see you in a little while, I'm headed home," he said. "What brings you home this weekend?", I asked. "The Peanut Festival Fair starts tonight", he replied. "Oh, I knew there had to be a reason you were coming," I said. Quickly he added, "But, the main reason is to see my mama." Yeah...right! I know a save when I hear one. Whatever the reason, I'm glad he's coming...maybe he'll bring me a corn dog and a caramel apple from the fair!

Hope you have a fun, restful week end with the ones you love. Enjoy Autumn!

THIS AND THAT

Today has been a very busy day, as things begin to move quickly on to the Christmas season. It was quite funny at school today, the kids were telling me about their adventures trick-or-treating last night....I began teaching them some turkey and Thanksgiving songs....and we ended up learning some Christmas music! That's enough to confuse any preschooler...AND their teacher! We will have programs for our K-4, and K-5 classes...and it's really not very long until the middle of December and program time. I got all the programs written, and music compiled, and I am having some help tomorrow getting it all run off. My pianist came today, so that's all set. I always feel like I can relax a bit when I get the programs written and handed out to the teachers. Then it's just a matter of learning the songs. That's the easy part.

I design the shirts for the children to wear, and I have a pretty good handle on that. And, I also design a shirt for our teachers and moms. I have my ideas for that also. So, I feel in pretty good shape.

I was not able to go to work all last week, due to Alex being so sick. But, thankfully, I have been able to be there this week. He is not much better, but I have had someone to stay with him most of the time this week. Tuesday was our second prayer meeting for him at our church. I am so humbled by the people taking their time to go and pray for my boy. I am so thankful. Just to know that people are praying....in one accord ...is a boost to this mom's spirit. We are so blessed that we have friends and family who care for us and hold us up to the Father. What do people do without that? Our church family is so willing and kind to be of any help they can, and the sweet group of ladies that I teach with are also so precious to me. They offer kindness and understanding and support. Never a complaint when I have to be out...just a hug and a prayer. God is so good. I pray with all my being that God will choose to answer our prayers...that He will work a miracle in Alex's life. I know without a doubt that He can. And, I also know without a doubt, that He holds Alex's future in His hands, and His perfect will may not be to heal him...in this world. I trust God...I trust His goodness...and I trust that whatever the future holds...He will continue to hold and strengthen us. That's what He promised...and that's what I believe.

Ian is coming home for the weekend. He'll be here tomorrow. He took a trip to New York City last week to visit a friend who is doing an internship at the Today show. He has another friend doing a marketing internship there also. So I think they took in quite a few sites in the big city. I haven't heard all the details yet, but I am expecting him to fill me in when he gets home.

My mom has been having much pain in her leg...so that it has been very hard for her to walk. Her rheumatologist put a shot in it, but that did not help. She then saw a neurologist who did nerve conduction tests and MRI and MRA, and that was all clear. This week she went to an orthopedic doc and he looked at all the results and told her it is bursitis. We were worried that it could be a hip or knee replacement or something worse. We are very thankful that we know what the problem is now. He put another shot where the pain was and hopefully this will give her some relief. I don't like for my mama to hurt...or my Pop either.

Well, I said 'this and that' and I have just rambled on and on, haven't I? But, you are such good listeners...you never interrupt me and you never seem to mind if I have to backspace and retype a word. You just patiently wait for me to get it together...thanks, friends!

AUTUMN LEAVES

Said a blade of grass to an autumn leaf, “You make such a noise falling! You scatter all my winter dreams.”
Said the leaf indignant, “Low-born and low-dwelling! Songless, peevish thing! You live not in the upper air and you cannot tell the sound of singing.”
Then the autumn leaf lay down upon the earth and slept. And when spring came she waked again – and she was a blade of grass.
And when it was autumn and her winter sleep was upon her, and above her through all the air the leaves were falling, she muttered to herself, “O these autumn leaves! They make such a noise! They scatter all my winter dreams.”

~ Kahlil Gibran ~
